"We want to apply a similar structure of mass customisation similar to nike ID & miAdidas with a background software style of photoshop to create a similar output of CAD (but slightly easier to use and more visually attractive). Our final application output would be a 3D editing environment application providing our users with patterns and materials that they can chose to apply to a template of a shoe of their choice." - This was our original intended outcome.
We think that this project turned out successfully. A lot of the issues that we faced were not surprising to us and planning ahead really helped us tackle these issues by giving ourselves plenty of time to work with the situations.
We broadened our horizons and were courageous enough to develop this project, especially because the majority of the features that we wanted to include within this program hadn't really been taught in any of the lab sessions. We wanted to make sure that we went slightly outside the box when creating these features. It was also our first time working with 3D models, but our experience with 3D object orientation helped out a lot with the display and logic of the program.
We completed background and historical research into sneakers and sneaker head culture in order to give ourselves a deeper meaning into what our application is about. It also allowed us to think about what we want our audience to gain from using our application. Being at a university that has such a wide range of diverse students we really notice how different everyone is and how different people’s styles are from one another. Reinforcing our university’s morals we want our users to be able to feel like they can stand out and be themselves. We hoped that by using our application users would feel inspired to explore their creativity
Looking into projects and similar applications it really highlighted the issues that people face when interacting with complicated technological editing softwares. We wanted to make sure that users did not face these same issues by making our application much more simple to use. Based on this factor we think that our application turned out successfully as users commented that our application is “professional and easy to use”.
We made sure that we took a lot of care when researching into User interaction and button design to make sure that we presented an application that was super easy to interact with and was very clearly labelled. I think this really helped to drive our application as a lot of the feedback that we gained consisted of users viewing the interactions as simple and that they felt comfortable when using it.
Overall, we think that this project satisfied the criteria that we set ourselves at the early development stages of our project. As some of our feedback stated, we would've liked to include more effects that users could use on their sneaker designs but other than that we are happy with the outcome! We hope that our users have strengthened their relationship between themselves and their sneakers or have found a new love for their sneakers and the value they hold about them as a person. We hope that users can use our application and understand the development of individuality and uniqueness through creativity.
